unlike. not seen such. and the scheme is unknown, although all printed editions read long ago

I have no doubt about the competence of the author of the scheme. But confusing is that the device is assembled using the pin elements, but not for surface mount, and occupies a decent board space. Therefore, it is likely that "interesting results on the long findings" are dependent on the parasitic inductances and capacitances installation.
