External data cards may provide huge extra storage space, and USB port makes mobile devices more versatile, but Sony's new data hub can make access still a whole lot easier, by combining these two data storage outlets into one handy, wireless device.

The WG-C10 is technically classified as a wireless server that is used to universally access any external storage device via Wi-Fi. In other words, you insert a storage device in it (an SD card for example) turn it on, and it will transform into a pocket Wi-Fi storage device. Any device that is connected to its Wi-Fi network could then directly access the files and data of the connected storage medium.

Aside from simple device-to-medium access, the WG-C10 also allows users to manipulate data from two separate storage mediums. For example, if you want to transfer files from the connected SD card to the connected USB flash drive, you may simply do so with the use of your tablet, smartphone, or PC.

Available slots and ports of the WG-C10 includes one memory card slot, one microUSB 2.0 port and one full USB 2.0 port. A maximum of 8 devices and computers can connect to its Wi-Fi network. As an extra bonus, the WG-C10 is also installed with a 2210 mA·h lithium-ion battery. This provides the needed power to the USB ports if for example, an external USB HDD would be connected to it. This also means that it can be used to directly charge devices via USB, allowing it to function as an extra portable battery pack.

OS compatibility for the WG-C10 includes Windows XP (SP3) / Vista (SP2) / 7 (SP1) / 8, Mac OS X 10.6+, Android 2.3 / 4+, and iOS 5.0+. PC's can simply use the available networking options of its OS to access the storage device. As for tablets and smartphones, you'll need to download the PWS Manager app.

Sony plans to release the WG-C10 on April 30, 2013. Its price is expected to be at around 97 USD.
