International Rectifier (IR) Introduces 1200V and 1600V Silicon Controlled Rectifiers Rated for 75A in Compact Epoxy Package

September 27, 2004 - International Rectifier (IR) announced the 75A-rated 70TPS12 and 70TPS16 silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs) in the Super-247^TM package. The SCR is used in a multitude of applications, ranging from motor drive input bridges to line-frequency welding machines.

The new SCRs expand the IR portfolio of discrete plastic SCRs and now cover from 10A to 75A, with voltages up to 1600V, covering the most popular requests from industrial power designers.

IR's Super-247 package has lower thermal resistance (0.27 degrees Celsius per Watt), and has the same power handling capability as the larger JEDEC TO-264 package. However, the Super-247 has the same footprint as the common TO-247.

Other benefits include 1400V surge capability, which is useful for safe operation in case a fault condition exists, like a short circuit, and a maximum on-state voltage of 1.4V at 100A, for low power dissipation.

Pricing for the 70TPS12 is US $6.60 each and the 70TPS16 is US $7 each in 100-unit quantities. The new SCRs are available immediately.
