AG128 family offers optimal performance and intelligent peripheral set that meets IEC60730 safety standard on automatic controls for household appliances.

Freescale Semiconductor has expanded its 32-bit ColdFire microcontroller (MCU) portfolio to meet the performance needs of the most demanding appliance and industrial applications. The new MCF51AG128 MCU family offers optimal performance and features to enhance system safety and integrity for applications such as washing machines, dishwashers, refrigeration, microwave ovens, room air conditioners, industrial drives/pumps and fans/compressors.

The AG128 MCUs operate at processor core speeds up to 50 MHz across a 2.7V – 5.5V power supply and include 128 kilobytes (KB) of flash memory and 16 KB of SRAM. Multiple package options, combined with new enhanced GPIO functionality, provide maximum flexibility in layout and manufacturing.

The peripheral set is designed for efficient control of 3-phase motor control applications and includes two 16-bit FlexTimers, high-speed analog comparators, a two-channel 16-bit PWM timer, a programmable delay block and a 24-channel, 12-bit ADC with PWM hardware triggering. Also included is functionality important for system safety and integrity, such as an advanced independently clocked COP, external watchdog monitor and a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) engine providing CLK failure protection and memory content validation for applications covered by regulations such as IEC60730.

Unique IP enables the AG128 products to optimize system performance and provide flexibility with DMA and iEvent modules to handle data transaction and interrupt management, thereby offloading CPU overhead and increasing overall performance.

“The MCF51AG128 32-bit MCU offers an ideal feature set that enables Indesit to drive innovative control solutions for the next generation of intelligent appliances,” said Stefano Frattesi, Research & Development Electronic Manager at Indesit, a leading European appliance manufacturer.
