Microchip's M2M Development Platform for CDMA (DM320017)

Microchip’s M2M Development Platform for CDMA enables the addition of Machine-to-Machine communications to your application.   The module is pre-certified on the Verizon Wireless network, simply follow the steps to activate an account through our development partner TwistM2M.   The platform includes CDMA, Zigbee and Ethernet connectivity, GPS, on board temperature and accelerometer, two expansion connections for customization and support for a micro SD Card.   For code development it supports Microchip In-Circuit System Programming (ICSP) interface for connection to MPLAB REAL ICE In-Circuit Emulator or MPLAB ICD 3 In Circuit Debugger.  Included demo code enables monitoring of the temperature and acceleration data via a convenient web page front-end.

Detailed Description

Microchip's M2M Development Platform for CDMA (DM320017)

The Microchip M2M platform sends and receives data to and from a cloud-based server through the CDMA cellular network.

The server is accessed by the user through a web portal that can be customized to an individual user's needs. Through the web portal, the user can display, analyze and download data collected by the M2M platform.

Microchip M2M Development platform for CDMA includes:

  •     On board PIC32MX795F512L microcontroller @ 80 MHz, 512 KB Flash and 128 KB RAM
  •     CDMA Cellular module certified on Verizon wireless network
  •     GPS for location aware applications
  •     10/100 Ethernet connectivity
  •     On board MRF24J40 for Zigbee and MiWi connectivity
  •     A serial communication interface for simple wired connectivity
  •     Micro SD Card support for code, event or image storage
  •     On-board 3-axis accelerometer to monitor motion
  •     Temperature and light sensors
  •     Two (2) Expansion ports for custom sensing or connectivity development
  •     FCC Part 15 Certified

Developers can monitor the various parameters of the M2M platform on the twistm2m portal or can develop and link to a portal hosted by Exosite, a very flexible and intuitive portal development environment. This combination of hardware, with an enabling ecosystem, eliminates the need for a developer to become a cloud or cellular technology expert, and provides a high level of capability with a low cost of entry.

Microchip M2M Development Platform for CDMA (“DM320017”) is a development/evaluation tool  designed to be used for research and development in a laboratory environment to enable customers to experiment with software to develop their target end-products.  The  DM320017 is certified as FCC Part 15 compliant for use as a finished product in the United States and Canada.

The DM320017 carries the CE label for compliance with EU Directive 2011/65/EU (RoHS2).  It should not be placed into the EU market (e.g. sale, loan, lease, gift, etc.) without confirmation of inapplicability of or alternatively, compliance to, EU EMC Directive 2004/108/EC as supported by the European Commission’s Guide for the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC (8th February 2010).
