Maxell Corporation of America (MCA) originally was established in the United States in October 1969 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. (Hitachi Maxell), based in Osaka, Japan. Hitachi Maxell was founded in 1961 and today is one of the world's leading producers of optical and magnetic memory media such as CD-ROMs, audio tapes, video cassette tapes, floppy disks and data cassette tapes, as well as dry batteries, microcells, and a variety of home electronic products. Maxell's name derived from the battery side of the business - MAXimum capacity dry cELL. A technology and marketing leader in advanced recordable media products since 1969, Maxell Corporation of America is a full-line manufacturer of digital and analog media products for the data storage, consumer and broadcast markets.
