At Computex 2012 AMD has unveiled a low power, small form factor desktop computer that you can easily hold in one hand.
The computer features an AMD Fusion C-60 APU clocked at 1GHz. It features Radeon 6200 graphics and 1GB of RAM, gigabit Ethernet, two USB ports, Bluetooth 4.0 support, and HDMI for video output. There’s even a SIM card slot and it’s wall plug-friendly — no cord or brick required. AMD’s display unit is also equipped with a 64GB SSD. Not a lot of room to spare, to be sure, but it’s easy enough to tap into networked storage or add on an external USB hard drive.
While certainly not a powerhouse processor, the C-60 is capable of handling 1080p video playback and moderate gaming. That might make the LiveBox a nice fit for your home theater, though it also looks perfectly suited for use in schools, libraries, and offices — where less-potent chips can handle the workload and space is in short supply.
AMD hasn’t said which companies are building systems based on the LiveBox, or indeed if anyone has tapped the reference design yet. They also haven’t offered up pricing details, however, it’s a safe bet that the LiveBox could sell for well under $300.
The model AMD was showing off had Windows 7 preinstalled, though that could change before the first LiveBox hits retail shelves.
