Quad Core ARM Cortex-A9 module is smallest

Direct Insight TRITON-TX6Q

The new TRITON-TX6Q is a complete system-on-module with four ARM Cortex-A9 cores, on a 31mm × 68mm module – believed to be the world’s smallest. Designed to bring the multimedia capability of smartphones and tablets to industrial applications, the TRITON-TX-6Q uses the Freescale i.MX6Q device and features industrial temperature support (-40C to +85C), pin-compatibility with the rest of Direct Insight’s TRITON-TX range which embraces 7 products including ARM9 and ARM Cortex-A8 based systems, and 10-year longevity.

The heart of the tiny system-on-module, Freescale's iMX6Q processor is based on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor running at 1GHz. Dedicated multimedia codecs offer 1080p video decode at 60fps, or encoding of two 720p streams. Extensive graphics acceleration is available via independent 3D and 2D engines, supporting OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.1. Capacitive and resistive touch screen displays are supported, and the i.MX6Q offers dual LVDS as well as parallel RGB outputs. In addition, the i.MX6 provides a wide range of connectivity including PCI Express and SATA as well as two high speed OTG-capable USB 2.0 ports, camera and CAN interfaces. TRITON-TX6Q comes initially with Linux 3.x, with Windows Embedded Compact 7 and Compact 2013 BSPs.

In common with the rest of the TRITON-TX family, the TRITON-TX6Q slots into the StarterKit-5 baseboard for development. The StarterKit-5 offers a range of capacitive and resistive touch screens as options for development. Advanced touch and gesture-based HMIs can be developed using Microsoft Silverlight, or a wide range of UI systems which sit on top of Linux.

The TRITON-TX6Q offers 1GB to 2GB of high performance 64-bit DDR3-1066 RAM and 128MB NAND Flash. The module takes a single 3.0 to 5.5v supply and provides a 1A 3.3V power output for use on the baseboard.

The TRITON-TX6Q is capable of the most demanding tasks, in a range of applications including medical devices, digital signage, security, and industrial multimedia products. The modules and development kits will be available from Direct Insight from early Q1 2013.
