Highly Integrated and Rugged Gate Drive Optocouplers for Harsh Industrial, Military and Aerospace Applications
Avago Technologies introduced a new line of 2.5A hermetic gate drive optocouplers featuring the ACPL-5160 and ACPL-5161. The ACPL-5160 is a rugged commercial-grade version. The ACPL-5161 is a MIL-STD compliant version manufactured and tested to Class H quality conformance level under MIL-PRF-38534 specifications. Optimized for high power motor control and power conversion applications, these devices are extremely robust and able to withstand harsh environments providing long life operation across the full military temperature range of –55 to +125 degree C.
Complimenting Avago’s existing HCPL-515x and HCPL-512x hermetic gate driver offerings, the ACPL-5160 and ACPL-5161 have higher output current drive capability supporting high power MOSFET and IGBT with power ratings up to 150 A and 1200 V. In addition, these new hermetic devices incorporate new functions including VCE desaturation (DESAT) detection, under voltage lockout (UVLO), “soft” IGBT turn-off, and isolated open collector fault feedback. More importantly, the ACPL-5160 and ACPL-5161 are designed to enhance the performance and reliability of a motor drive without the cost, size, and complexity of a discrete design.
