Analog Ddevices' A/D Converters with Internal Reference Consume Lowest Power with High Accuracy/Small Package Combination

Analog Devices AD7091R-2 AD7091R-4 AD7091R-8

Multichannel, 12-bit, 1-MSPS SAR A/D converters allows industrial and medical equipment designers to optimize operating and static power budgets.

Analog Devices introduced three ultra-low-power, multichannel, 12-bit, 1-MSPS SAR (successive approximation register) A/D converters. The new 2, 4 and 8-channel A/D converters are designed for battery-powered data acquisition modules, handheld meters, field instruments and communications applications as well as medical devices such as portable electrocardiograms and heart rate monitors. The A/D converters are the most power-efficient in their class, dissipating a maximum of 1.7 mW at 1 MSPS (mega-samples per second), which is over 60 percent less power than the closest SAR A/D converter competitor. The A/D converters are housed in a tiny 4-mm × 4-mm LFCSP package and feature a 5 ppm/°C typ on-chip internal reference.

Analog Devices - AD7091R-2, AD7091R-4, AD7091R-8

Key Features:

  • 1 MSPS throughput with flexible power/throughput rate management
  • Power consumption at 3 V supply:
    - 1.7 mW @ 1 MSPS
    - 900 µW @ 500 kSPS
    - 1.4 µW @ powerdown
  • Programmable channel sequencer with access to the multiplexer output eliminates the need for one buffer per channel saving both power and space
  • User programmable alert can signal an out-of-bounds condition without requiring the user to service the A/D converter output data (minimizes processor overhead/power)
  • SPI interface
  • Temperature range: –40 °C to +125 °C
