New TBU-RS Series Integrates a TBU® Overcurrent Device and TVS Overvoltage Protector Helping to Reduce Component Count and BOM Costs
Bourns, Inc. introduced its high-speed Model TBU-RSxxx-300-WH series protectors for use in RS-485 communication interface applications and AISG (Antenna Interface Standards Group) modem protection. Offering a dual-channel solution, the two models (TBU-RS055-300-WH and TBU-RS085-300-WH) in the series are capable of protecting both twisted-pair RS-485 lines in a single product. Integrating a Transient Blocking Unit overcurrent protector with a TVS overvoltage protection diode in a single device, the Bourns® TBU-RS features fast (<1 μs) response time to protect against ESD, EFT, power cross and lightning transient surge threats.
Combining these devices into a one package solution helps reduce component count as well as BOM costs while simplifying assembly pick and place processes. Comparison tests by Bourns show that the TBU-RS series provides a 52 percent savings in board space when compared to typical discrete solutions. The TBU-RS series also aids in simplifying and accelerating the PCB design process by eliminating the PCB traces between the TBU devices and the TVS network.

A flexible solution, the TBU-RS series can be used with a customer's choice of primary protection for specific applications. When coupled with an overvoltage protector such as the Bourns® GDT (Model 2030-42T-SM-RPLF) or the Bourns® TISP® Thyristor Surge Protector (Model TISP4350J3BJR-S), the integrated solution supports compliance to IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD), IEC 61000-4-4 (EFT) and IEC 61000-4-5 (Surge) standards.
Bourns remains committed to developing continued technology advancements that address the protection needs in a wide range of applications. Available now, the Bourns® TBU-RS series is RoHS compliant and meets industry standards such as Pb-free solder reflow profiles.
