Mark Thoren

Mark Thoren joined Analog Devices (Linear Technology at the time) in 2001 as an applications engineer supporting precision data converters. He's since held various roles in mixed-signal applications involving training, technical publications, and customer support. Mark recently joined Analog Devices' System Development Group, where he works on reference designs and the ADI University Program. He holds a BS in Agricultural Mechanical Engineering and MSEE, both from University of Maine.

  1. PWM-Based Analog Calculator Provides Four-Quadrant Multiplication, Division
You can build an analog calculator using a pulse-width modulator (PWM) to perform accurate four-quadrant multiplication and division. While this approach won’t help you ace any math tests, it demonstrates some useful sub-circuits that extend the functionality of the...

  2. Quartz crystal-based remote thermometer features direct Celsius readout
    Jim Williams Mark Thoren
Although quartz crystals have served as temperature sensors, designers haven't taken advantage of the technology because few manufacturers offer the sensors as standard products (references 1 and 2). In contrast to conventional resistance- or semiconductor-based sensors, a...

  3. Accurate, Fast Settling Analog Voltages from Digital PWM Signals
Introduction Pulse width modulation (PWM) is a common technique for generating analog voltages from a digital device such as a microcontroller or FPGA. Most microcontrollers have dedicated PWM generation peripherals built in, and it only takes a few lines of RTL code to...
