Application Notes
- Configuring the bq26500 for Gas Gauging ApplicationsPDF, 132 Kb, File published: Sep 15, 2003
This application note describes the ten EEPROM locations that can be programmed by the user to optimize the setup for the particular battery and host requirements. - Determining the Values to Program the bq26500/bq26501 EEPROMPDF, 326 Kb, File published: Jun 17, 2004
Customers can program ten EEPROM registers to optimize the ability of the bq26500/bq26501 to monitor the battery capacity of a given group or type of Li-ion pack cells. This document explains how to obtain the values to be programmed in EEPROM by using information known by the pack/system designers and manufacturers and data collected from packs. The bq26500 is the first complete battery fuel gauge for handheld devices such as PDAs and cellular handsets. Many of these applications use only one Li-Ion or Li-Polymer cell in the battery, producing a nominal 3.6 V. Although optimized for single-cell applications, the bq26500 works well in systems using multicell battery packs, particularly two series-cell batteries producing 7.2 V. This applic - Choosing Between Battery Gas Gauges & Monitors to Track Charge AvailabililityPDF, 184 Kb, File published: Sep 27, 2005
Some customers are unfamiliar with battery monitors or gas gauges for their handheld portable applications. The intent of this application report is to provide information about TI product families that are excellent options when selecting a battery gas gauge solution. - HDQ Compatibility Between OMAP and BQ ProductsPDF, 76 Kb, File published: Jun 17, 2004
TI OMAP? and battery management products are found in today's fast-paced developing market of handheld products that include cellular phones with integrated camera and video recorder features, PDAs with wireless capabilities, and advanced handheld gaming systems. In many of these systems, both OMAP and battery management products coexist. OMAP platforms have an HDQ engine that is used to communica - Complete battery-pack design for one- or two-cell portable applicationsPDF, 164 Kb, File published: Jul 17, 2006
- HDQ Communication Basics (Rev. A)PDF, 103 Kb, Revision: A, File published: Sep 18, 2008
This report compares the communication timing specifications for the different battery gas gauge and battery monitor products. It discusses some of the interface requirements necessary for robust HDQ communication, such as the need for a break prior to each communication, how to reliably read 16-bit dynamic values over the 8-bit bus, and the need for some noise filtering on the HDQ line. It also - ESD and RF Mitigation in Handheld Battery Pack ElectronicsPDF, 68 Kb, File published: Mar 6, 2008
It is imperative to protect the electronics in a consumer-removable battery pack from ESD damage. Even an upset without permanent damage may be unacceptable to the end-user. Handheld equipment that contains a transmitter also may require protection to guard against improper measurement and/or upset due to the affect of the radio frequency (RF) on the circuitry. Because the RF field strength varies - MSP430 Microcontroller SW for Handheld Fuel Gauges and Battery Authentication (Rev. A)PDF, 350 Kb, Revision: A, File published: May 26, 2010
