Cypress Semiconductor Corp. announced the new CY8CKIT-030 Development Kit for its PSoC 3 programmable system-on-chip architecture, along with a new version of its PSoC Creator software tool.
The new CY8CKIT-030 PSoC 3 Development Kit is designed for fast and easy development of precision analog designs leveraging the integrated 20-bit Delta Sigma ADC in the PSoC 3 architecture, which delivers better than 18-bit effective number of bits (ENOB) performance. Designed for low power, the kit showcases a 1-microAmp sleep current with the real-time clock running. It offers built in programming and debugging without the need for an external programming device, and two expansion board ports that can connect to other Cypress kits for additional functionality. The new kit also has built-in CapSense buttons and a 5-segment slider. It includes a CD (with PSoC Creator and example projects) and a USB cable that can both power and program the board.
Cypress has also released version 1.0 of its PSoC Creator Integrated Design Environment. This new version delivers eighty-seven production-ready PSoC 3 components that have been fully characterized. Designers now have easy access to a rich library of pre-built, pre-tested analog and digital peripherals, which they can use immediately, or can customize to specific design requirements. This new version also adds features such as improved parameter dialogs, a static timer checker, instruction cache support, automated support case reporting and new error notification tools. Users can download the free software at www.cypress.com/go/psoccreator.
Cypress expects the new development kit and software release to add to the strong momentum that PSoC 3 is generating. To date, over 250 customer designs have specified PSoC 3, and Cypress has shipped more than 4,000 design kits and have shipped samples to over 700 customers worldwide. The PSoC 3 architecture includes four product families, all of which are in full production today with samples available on request at www.cypress.com/go/PSoC3.
“We recently shipped our 750 millionth PSoC device, almost all of which came from our first generation PSoC 1 architecture,” said Gahan Richardson, vice president for Cypress’s PSoC Platform. “The PSoC 3 families, along with our 32-bit ARM Cortex-M3 PSoC 5 devices, are showing a much faster adoption in the market than PSoC 1 did at a similar stage in its development. We’re excited about the reception our customers have given PSoC 3 to date, and we look forward to accelerated growth with the PSoC 3 architecture and PSoC Creator software tool now in full production.”
