CSR announces the introduction of CSR6000, the world’s first fully automotive-qualified standalone Wi-Fi solution to broaden its offerings for the connected car platforms. It offers our customers a low risk and cost effective way to add Wi-Fi to existing automotive designs. Pre-integrated and validated on CSR’s automotive grade SiRFprima reference platform, CSR6000 is also designed for easy integration into our customers’ preferred host application processor platforms. Truly designed just for this market, CSR6000 offers high RF performance across the automotive temperature range and a QFN package facilitating chip on board designs. In addition, CSR offers a Wi-Fi software suite supporting all of the major automotive operating systems.
CSR6000 is our first AEC-Q100 qualified Wi-Fi platform. As adoption rates of Wi-Fi continue to rise, CSR is making it simpler than ever for our customers to introduce wireless connectivity into the automotive environment.
The UniFi CSR6000 family has been designed for IEEE 802.11b/g/n in the 2.4Ghz band. Using 65nm CMOS it meets the requirements of automotive embedded systems, giving industry-leading low power consumption, optimal system performance, a small form factor and low total system cost.
The single spatial stream modulations of IEEE 802.11n enable support for embedded devices without requiring multiple antennas. Support for optional IEEE 802.11n features provides enhanced rate, range and performance.
Key features
- Full support for IEEE 802.11e QoS with WMM Power Save
- Save ensures that automotive solutions can achieve optimal power consumption
- CSR advanced Unity IEEE 802.11/Bluetooth coexistence schemes makes further advances and enables exceptional performance during the simultaneous use of IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth with a single antenna
- Optimised software drivers for Windows and Linux embedded operating systems are provided as standard. Support for other operating systems is available on request. Support for SDIO 4-bit and 1-bit, SD SPI and CSPI host interfaces enables industry leading throughput in embedded designs
- CSR6000 Automotive has a small system footprint and extremely low eBOM, enabling easy integration
Benefits
CSR6000 opens up the car to new and exciting wireless use cases:
- Factory installed modems create in-car Wi-Fi hotspots
- Bluetooth v3.0 devices bought into vehicles can make use of the in-car Wi-Fi radio to synchronise data at speeds ten times faster than just using classic Bluetooth
- Cars with in-built Wi-Fi can connect to the Wi-Fi infrastructure around us
- Reversing cameras can be connected via Wi-Fi to a car's central console display
- Wi-Fi enabled CE devices can connect to the car and stream music or videos to the in-vehicle system
CSR6000 host software for Wi-Fi will be supported on a number of operating system platforms: Linux, Genivi Linux, QNX, Windows Automotive as well as Android.
