STMicroelectronics has introduced a pair of wide-band operational amplifiers that have the high output current necessary for driving xDSL line interfaces and multiple video lines. The parts are a cost-effective way of meeting the high-performance signal amplification and conditioning demands of these applications.
The TS615 and TS616 operational amplifiers offer low-noise and low-power performance with a high output current and are available in small packages. They can be configured differentially to drive signals in telecommunication systems using multiple carriers.
Both devices are dual current-feedback operational amplifiers featuring a very high slew rate of 410V/µs and a -3dB bandwidth of 40MHz, for an output current of 410mA. The high slew rate helps control harmonic distortion and intermodulation.
Both op amps operate from ±2.5V to ±6V with a dual supply voltage, or from 5V to 12V on a single supply voltage. This gives the parts the ability to drive a differential load of 50W with a swing of 21V (from a 12V power supply) and a differential load of 25 W with a swing of 7.6V (from a 5V power supply).
The 3rd-order intermodulation distortion of -88dBc (at 100kHz/110kHz, 16Vp-p, 50W differential load) and -87dBc (at 370kHz/400kHz, 16Vp-p, 50W differential load), associated with a very low noise of only 2.5nV/ÖHz, makes the parts a good choice for applications requiring excellent signal quality with multiple carriers.
The TS615 has a Power Down function with low output impedance to maintain good line matching even when the part is in sleep mode. For board space saving and thermal considerations, the TS615 is housed in miniature TSSOP14 Exposed-Pad plastic package.
The TS616 comes in a standard pin-out, lacks the Power-Down function and is offered in an SO8 Exposed-Pad plastic package.
