Entire line of 1- to 16- kbit Microwire® compatible devices in tiny 6-lead package
Oct. 27, 2003- Microchip Technology Inc announced the industry's first 8-kbit and 16-kbit Microwire® compatible serial EEPROMs in a 6-lead SOT-23 package. Approximately the size of the equal symbol (=) on the key of a standard keyboard, this device is well suited for portable and handheld applications where board space is at a premium.Utilizing Microchip's patented, advanced PMOS Electrically Erasable Cell (PEEC) process technology, the 93XX76A/B and 93XX86A/B devices enable designers to put higher-density parts in applications requiring smaller footprints or lower profiles. Microchip is also introducing its 93XX76C and 93XX86C devices, which are available in 8-lead MSOP, TSSOP, PDIP and SOIC packages.
These new devices offer lower write-cycle times, lower supply current and lower stand-by current. The 93XX76A and 93XX86A devices are designed to support a x8-memory organization and the 93XX76B and 93XX86B devices support a x16-memory organization. The 93XX76C and 93XX86C devices feature a standard Word Organization (ORG) pin, allowing for selection of either the 8- or 16-bit word lengths.
The 93LC76A/B/C and 93LC86A/B/C have operating voltages down to 2.5 volts, active current of 1 milliamp (mA) and standby current of 1 microamp (µA). For battery-powered applications with even lower voltage requirements, the 93AA76A/B/C and 93AA86A/B/C enable operation down to 1.8 volts. A third series, the 93C76A/B/C and 93C86A/B/C, are also available for standard 5-volt applications requiring a higher power-on-reset (POR) voltage threshold.
The footprint of the 6-lead SOT-23 package is only of 8.26 mm2, which is approximately 72 percent smaller than the popular 8-lead narrow SOIC package and 56 percent smaller than an 8-lead TSSOP package. The device profile has a height of approximately 1.2-mm, which is 23 percent lower than a SOIC package. This smaller package offers designers an unprecedented level of flexibility in space-constrained applications.
Pricing in 10,000-unit quantities is $0.40 each for the 93XX76A, 93XX76B and 93XX76C devices, and $0.44 each for the 93XX86A, 93XX86B and 93XX86C devices. Samples and volume production are available now.
