Maxim- 76V, 1A and 0.5A MAXPower Buck Converters Have Lowest Quiescent Current

Maxim

November 4, 2003- Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX5033 (0.5A output current) and MAX5035 (1A output current) MAXPower family of high-voltage DC-DC buck converters. Both devices feature the lowest, no-load quiescent current available on the market (350µA at 76V input voltage). These devices operate over a wide 6.5V to 76V input voltage range and can withstand up to 80V transient voltage spikes at the input. The MAX5033/MAX5035 include an internal, high-side, N-Channel MOSFET and require no external compensation, thus making power-supply design simple. Additionally, both devices use off-the-shelf inductors readily available from specified vendors.

The MAX5033/MAX5035 operate at a 125kHz fixed switching frequency and feature thermal shutdown and indefinite short-circuit protection. Each device includes a shutdown pin for sequencing multiple power supplies. Power conversion efficiencies over 90% can easily be achieved due to the low internal MOSFET RDS(ON), low operating current, and low switching losses. Versions with fixed 3.3V, 5V, 12V, and adjustable output voltages are available.

The MAX5033/MAX5035 operate over the 0°C to +85°C temperature range and are available in surface mount 8-pin SO or 8-pin DIP packages. Prices start at $1.76 for MAX5033 and $1.90 for MAX5035 (1000-up, FOB USA).
