Contour, Inc. unveiled the Contour+2, its latest HD, wearable POV camera. The device offers Facebook integration and iPhone-based remote control capabilities.
Contour has come a long way since it launched the 640×480 Vholdr in 2008. Today’s Contour+2 head-mounted camera shoots in 1080p and can suck in 120 frames per second for 480p action slo-mo action.
The camera ships with a variety of mounts, including one for a table; if that’s not good enough, you can buy special mount kits for $49 each.
On the mobile phone side, Contour+2 users will be able to use the new Contour Connect App and the camera’s integrated Bluetooth connectivity to pair the Contour+ with their iPhones (no Android, for now).
In addition to starting and stopping video recording via the phone, users will be able to see what the camera sees on their iPhone screen. There’s no Wi-Fi option, for now.
Countour+2 built in accelerometer and GPS let the camera track speed, elevation and distance, which it can then attach to the video as rich data. Now that data can travel along with the video to Facebook.
For Facebook users (as well as those who share their Contour+2 videos on Vimeo and YouTube) this means each video can feature a data overlay, which is synced to the on-screen action. See the video at the bottom for an example of what this looks like on YouTube.
The new $399 model, which ships with a waterproof case that can handle depths of up to 60 meters, will be available later this month.
