Sharp Announces Industry's Brightest LED Device

Sharp GW7GAL50SGC

The LED device having a luminous flux of 14,000lm

Sharp announced that it has developed a high-brightness LED device, "GW7GAL50SGC," and will start to ship samples March 5, 2013.

The GW7GAL50SGC, which is for lighting apparatuses with a wattage of about 100W, is the single LED device that has the industry's highest luminous flux (14,000lm), the company said. The device is suited for use in street lamps and lighting apparatuses installed on high ceilings.

Sharp improved heat radiation performance by using a high heat conductivity material for the substrate of the LED device. Also, it increased luminous efficiency to 143lm/W to improve power-saving capability. The company's existing product has a wattage of about 50W and a luminous efficiency of 110lm/W.

Furthermore, Sharp improved usability. The product life of the new LED device is as long as 40,000 hours, reducing the burden of maintenance. And a connector was employed for connection to electric wiring, eliminating the need for soldering.

The GW7GAL50SGC measures 86.6 (W) × 75.0 (D) × 3.9mm (H) (excluding the protrusion of the connector). It has a color rendering index of 70 or higher and a color temperature of 7,000K. The price of its sample is ¥9,000 (approx US$97.3, including tax). The volume production of the device will begin May 27, 2013.
