Lenovo selects NXP's ultra-low-power microcontroller for new Lenovo VIBE X2 Pro smartphone

NXP LPC54100

NXP Semiconductors announced that the Lenovo VIBE X2 Pro smartphone, due to be released in April 2015, will use the NXP LPC54100 series of microcontrollers for always-on sensor processing applications. Lenovo selected the LPC54100 series for its processing power and market-leading power efficiency to maximize battery life while supporting today's popular and innovative always-on sensor-based features.

Today’s average smartphone uses up to 12 sensors to detect or measure data such as movement, orientation, location, voice, light intensity and more. As an ultra-low-power sensor hub, LPC54100 microcontrollers offer a more power-efficient alternative to an application processor for sensor interface and processing, using as little as 3 µA for always-on 'sensor listening' and as little as 55 µA/MHz for active mode sensor data aggregation. In addition, the power-efficient Cortex-M4 core provides ample bandwidth for sensor fusion algorithms to support features such as motion, gesture control and context awareness, and can scale to address new use cases or new features as they become available.
