The new devices are suitable for the secondary side of many different AC-DC topologies including flyback, half-bridge, full-bridge and forward converters. Historically, Schottky diodes were used as output rectification devices for high power density SMPS. Significant efficiency improvement can be gained by replacing Schottky rectifiers with synchronous rectification MOSFETs.
Depending on application details, the new SR MOSFETs enable higher efficiencies and may allow a "two-for-one" exchange for competing devices to reduce component count, save PCB area and increase power density. In addition, IR's selection of packages enables a simplified performance upgrade path for existing designs.
The new 75V and 100V devices are available in TO-220, D2Pak and TO-262 qualified to Q101 grade and moisture sensitivity level 1 (MSL1). Lead-free packages are also available to help customers meet the "Restriction of the Use of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment" (RoHS) directive in the newest SMPS solutions without any compromise in performance.
