The MAX8525 requires 60% less capacitance than its nearest competitor, reducing size and cost. Its proprietary, precision "Rapid Active Average" current sense, 0.4% accurate reference, and low-offset error amplifier provide the fastest and highest accuracy voltage positioning in the industry, thus reducing the need for output capacitors. The peak current-mode control and finite-gain precision error amplifier provide the fastest transient response to further reduce capacitor requirements.
The MAX8523 and MAX8525 offer two options for current sensing: high-accuracy current sensing using sense resistors or low-cost, lossless, temperature-compensated current sensing. Peak-current-mode architecture simplifies compensation using ceramic, polymer, or electrolytic capacitors. The 150kHz to 1.2MHz phase-switching frequency optimizes size, cost, and efficiency.
Packaged in a compact, 16-pin QSOP, the MAX8523 dual-phase driver permits high-frequency, small form factor (SFF) VRM designs. The MAX8525 VRD/VRM 10-controller is packaged in a 28-pin QSOP. Adjustable dead time for the high-side driver, adaptive dead time for the low-side driver, and its 4.5V to 6.5V gate voltage range, optimize design with a variety of MOSFETs.
The MAX8523/MAX8525 chipset is competitively priced to address high-volume server and desktop applications. The MAX8524 PWM controller is also available for legacy VRD/VRM9.1 designs.
