Infineon's new CoolMOS C7 series represents a revolutionary step forward in technology. It provides the world's lowest RDS(on)/package and also improves efficiency over the full load range thanks to its low switching losses.
C7 is optimized for hard-switching topologies such as power factor correction (CCM PFC), two transistor forward (TTF) and solar boost stages in solar applications, servers, telecom systems and UPS designs. The 650 V breakdown voltage makes it suitable for solar and switched mode power supply (SMPS) PFC stages, both of which require extra safety margins.
The new product family offers the world's lowest RDS(on) of 19 mΩ in a TO-247 and 45 mΩ in TO-220 and D2PAK. The fast switching performance of the C7 series now enables customers to operate at switching frequencies greater than 100 kHz whilst achieving titanium levels of efficiency in server PFC stages. This technology opens up new ways of boosting power density by reducing the space needed for passive components.
