Audio Amplifier from Diodes Incorporated Saves Space in Portable Products

Diodes PAM8013 PAM8015

Diodes Incorporated introduced a low-noise 3 W mono Class-D audio amplifier in the tiny QFN1515-9L package to support miniaturization of portable products such as MP3 players, tablets and smart phones.

Providing two alternative pin-outs to help simplify board layouts, the PAM8013 and PAM8015 each measure just 1.5 mm × 1.5 mm × 0.75 mm and use a filterless output architecture to minimize the number of external components and total PCB footprint.

The amplifiers provide audio system designers with a differential input and assure low noise performance, high PSRR and good THD+N figures. Output power capability is high as well, providing 3 W for a 5 V supply into a 4 Ω speaker.

The devices feature a wide 2.8 V to 5.5 V supply voltage operating range to support a variety of different battery cell configurations. With an efficiency as high as 90% and a shutdown current less than 1 μA, the amplifiers help maximize system battery life.

To protect the amplifiers from any harmful circuit excesses, they integrate shortcircuit protection with auto recovery, over-temperature protection and undervoltage lock-out circuitry.
