Murata's World's Smallest Micro DC-DC Converter - LXDC Series Advances Mobile Device Miniaturization and Increases Functionality

Murata Americas announced the launch of its new micro DC-DC converter series. By combining a number of Murata's proprietary materials and technical capabilities (specifically ferrite material expertise, multilayer processing, and power module design), the company developed a product line that delivers ultra-compact size and EMI noise suppression. Moreover, the LXDC2UR and LXDC3EP series are the world's smallest DC-DC converters (at 600mA and 1A current ratings, respectively) that also incorporate the I/O capacitors into the same package. Murata also provides the LXDC55B series, available at 3A.

A key feature of the LXDC line is the embedding of the power inductor within the actual ferrite substrate. By utilizing this structure, the IC can be mounted directly above the power inductor coil with almost no pattern length to diminish leakage radiation noise. The I/O connections are also routed through this same ferrite substrate to create a function similar to ferrite beads that significantly reduces conductive noise. Lastly, board space is greatly decreased when using this product versus other discrete surface mount designs.

The approximate lead-time for the LXDC series is 14 weeks. The LCDC2UR series is priced at $1.69, and the LXDC3EP is $1.95. Both prices depend on purchasing volume.
